Rosh HaShana literally means the Head of the Year.

It occurs on the two first days of the Jewish month Elul (usually falls in September/October on the secular year)

The essential mitzvah (commandment) is to hear the sounding of the shofar (made of hollowed out ram’s horn)

During the festive holiday meal a round bread loaf which symbolize the cycle of time is served.
